Walt Whitman Hits a High Note: A Day of Music, Spirit, and Support

Walt Whitman Hits a High Note: A Day of Music, Spirit, and Support

The gymnasium at Walt Whitman Elementary School transformed into a vibrant concert hall as students assembled for a spectacular Spring Concert preview, a daytime celebration ahead of their formal evening performance for family members at the middle school. The program began with the Chamber Orchestra performing Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song and El Toro, followed by a creative rendition of GPS where Mr. Snyder provided the navigation voice-over. The Advanced Orchestra then took the stage to play Sahara Crossing, The Red Lion, and Classic Sinfonia before a seamless transition to the Chorus. A talented fourth grader led a moving performance of Brave on the piano as the rest of the singers joined in, followed by Here Comes the Sun and a lively Sweet Caroline accompanied by select orchestra and band members. Throughout the performances, the choral students were a constant source of energy, clapping and cheering enthusiastically, while the rest of the students in the school proved to be an amazing audience, showing wonderful support for their peers. The Junior Band kept the momentum going with Band on Parade, Turbo Rock, and Distant Journey, leading into the final act of the day: the Senior Band, who closed the assembly on a high note with spirited versions of Piñata, Adventure in India, and the classic surf-rock hit Wipe Out.

As the final notes echoed through the gym, the room erupted in enthusiastic clapping from the entire student body, marking a successful end to the assembly and leaving the young musicians primed and ready to share their hard work with their families later that night.
