Walt Whitman: The Global Connection: Culture, Science, and Communication

Walt Whitman: The Global Connection: Culture, Science, and Communication

Our Kindergarten and first-grade students are continuing to build and enjoy their sign language skills by creatively integrating science concepts and music into their growing “vocabulary.” After sharing their outdoor experiences from the recent snowfall, students explored why it rains or snows and learned about the water cycle. They even signed a song they created together called “The Water Cycle.” Our youngest learners are excited to “teach” you all about it!

Students in second and third grade have been learning that a continent is much more than just a large landmass. Through their studies, they discovered how geography, climate, and agriculture influence the cultures of the people who live there. Students explored how these factors impact everything from popular foods and types of housing to clothing and daily life, helping them make meaningful connections between geography and culture.

In fourth and fifth grade, students are deepening their understanding of the three Romance Languages—French, Italian, and Spanish—while strengthening their English language skills. By identifying common root words, prefixes, and suffixes across languages, students are making connections that enhance vocabulary development in all four languages. In addition, students are integrating science into their language studies by exploring ecosystems in countries where these languages are spoken, learning about both biotic and abiotic elements unique to each region.

We are proud of the curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm our students bring to their language learning experiences!
