A Whitman Winter Walk: Trimming the Doors of Walt Whitman Elementary

A Whitman Winter Walk: Trimming the Doors of Walt Whitman Elementary

Along the halls of Walt Whitman School, The spirit of winter begins to take hold. Not with the chill of the morning air, But in stories of paper and glitter told. From Kindergarten hands to Fifth Grade heights, The hallways are filled with festive sights.

Each classroom door is a wooden frame, Where Home Alone traps are part of the game— Watch for the feathers and swinging cans, The cleverest work of the smallest fans! The Fifth Graders grin with a hairy surprise, With mustaches fixed beneath their eyes; "'Stashed through the snow," their banners say, As they dash toward the holidays, shouting "Hooray!"

The Music Room door is a rock-and-roll star, With a snowman strumming a cool guitar, While penguins waddle in formal wear, And Starbucks cups scent the hallway air. The Specials wings and Support Staff too, Have stirred up a brew that is tasty and new; With hot chocolate steam and "Warm and Cozy" vibes, Created by all of our school-wide tribes.

There are snowglobes frozen in cardboard glass, Watching the busy young scholars pass. Strings of lights glow in colorful hues, Chasing away the December blues. A snowball fight is paused in time, Near mountains where skiers begin their climb. And if you want "S’more Fun" to end the year, The toasted-marshmallow art is here!

A cozy mug is filled to the brink, Not with the cocoa you’d usually drink— But overflowing with tiny books, Tucked away in the warmest of nooks. Elf selfies captured in silly poses, With New Year’s wishes and rosy noses, And Wanted signs for the holiday thief, In a winter wonderland beyond belief.

Look past the presents wrapped in bows, To where the candy and snowflake grows. Leaves of Grass may be the namesake's pride, But it’s leaves of construction paper inside— Where every hallway, from end to end, Shows the heart of a student and the hand of a friend.
